| First Anime Appearance:Yu-Gi-Oh: Duelist Kingdom Episode 001 - The Heart of the CardsAbout the Dark Magician:Dark Magician is a Dark-attribute Level 7 Spellcaster-type monster that is part of the Dark Magician archetype/series. The monsters of this archetype are fairly strong on their own, however, they rely a lot on a large amount of support cards to keep them going. The later releases revolve around spell counters. Depending on the way the Deck is built, this archetype can be very slow or fast archetype, occasionally able to out-trump even the "Blackwings", or the "Six Samurai" depending on the draw and how often "Dark Magician" can be Special Summoned. "Magical Dimension" is a great card in order to rush your "Dark Magician" out fast. Protecting a "Skilled Dark Magician" as he gathers up his counters is another way to go, but this strategy relies on how many spell cards you can allow your opponent to play before they gain the upper hand.Combos and Strategies:This card can also be easily Special Summoned in Rank 4 Centric Deck. Use "Goblindbergh" or "Tin Goldfish" to Special Summon "Armageddon Knight" or "Elemental HERO Prisma", then use the latter Summoned cards to dump "Dark Magician" to your Graveyard. Overlay the two Level 4 monster to Xyz Summon "Daigusto Emeral", and use its effect to Special Summon this card. Note that you can also dump this card in any other means such like "Foolish Burial".You can combine the above strategy by using "Swing of Memories" and "Ebon Illusion Magician", given the 2 copies of "Dark Magician" is already in Graveyard. Special Summon "Dark Magician" in your Graveyard by "Daigusto Emeral", then use "Swing of Memories" to Special Summon the second copies from your Graveyard. Overlay the 2 Level 7 "Dark Magicians" to Xyz Summon "Ebon Illusion Magician". Finally detach 1 material from "Ebon Illusion Magician" to Special Summon the third copy of this card from your Deck or Hand. You can also use the effect of "Daigusto Emeral" to return 3 important cards including 1 "Dark Magician" to your Deck to draw 1 card, then use "Ebon Illusion Magician" to Special Summon it from your Deck. This combo gives a minimal +3 advantage.The Yugioh Card Rating:4/5 - The Dark Magician is one of my favorite Spellcaster-type monsters. Not only does it have a cool card artwork, it has decent attack and defense and has many ways to summon it from the Deck, Graveyard, and Hand. Along with the Dark Magician Girl, it has many support cards including some rather recent support like Ebon Illusion Magician, Magi Magi Magician Gal , or The Eye of Timeaus. It can be used in its own Turbo Deck, in Spellbooks with High Priestess of Prophecy. or in a Chaos deck by using Light-attribute monsters along with its Dark-attribute support. | |
